Today I got The Ultimate Upgrade!

After a very long business trip to multiple cities with multiple meetings, I boarded Delta from Atlanta to San Antonio.

We boarded quickly and Captain John Fertig came into the first class cabin to update us on the flight and welcome us on board. He noticed 2 kids, around 10 and 14 two rows ahead of me, and chatted with them and then told them to bring their phones and come up to the cockpit.

He and the First Officer Arnn showed them how it all worked and took pictures with them, both kids getting to sit in the Captain’s seat.

I got up to go to the lav during this and said, in passing, to the flight attendant, Chris: “that is a really cool thing the Captain is doing for them.” Then I said: “maybe one day I’ll get to sit up there.”

I return to my seat, air buds in, about to nap, and Captain Fertig comes up and invites me up to the cockpit and says “bring your phone.”

This is WOOO!

For three and a half days of this business trip, me and my team of really smart people have been mapping out how we can mobilize The Wonder of WOOO to inspire others to serve others better.

To WOOO is to Win Others Over and Over…to transform from the mundane to magical.✨

To WOOO there must be intention AND there must be behavior.

The pilots and crew could have competed assigned tasks, closed the door, and taxi us to take off and that would have been acceptable.

Instead they chose to act.
To engage.
To listen.
And to make the mundane magical and memorable.

For 2 kids. And for one 57-yr old kid, too.

I am literally a Life-Long Customer with Delta— this flight being my 2.34 millionth mile.

And I am pretty sure these pics just made it into the book and the keynote “Life-Long Customers.”
