What are you living under the influence of…
For 5,481 days I have more intentionally lived under the influence of serenity.
Serenity. Peace. Utter calm. Unruffled repose.

I have lived with the intention to recognize and recreate joy. To shine bright and steady.

While if you know me, you know I rarely live the same hour twice, I have striven to abide constantly in the Peace of the Lord and His promise of serenity. If you know me, calm and still are not the same expression. 😊

Today, I accept the things I cannot change. Today, I change the things that I can. Today I continue to beg for the WISDOM to know the difference.

I conditioned myself to believe that true peace and power could be only be found by procuring something I did not have but thought I needed and that by consuming that “something” I could calm my mind and peace the storms.

Today, my true peace remains grounded in my faith in my Sovereign Lord and my peace is personified by my eternal gratitude for and my intentional management of my breath.

When I calm my breath I calm my mind and I find peace.

You see, I came to believe that a beverage could give me strength, restore my mind, calm my mind, and help me overcome life’s obstacles. And, I then came to believe that a beverage was gaining more power over me than I over it. But I also came to believe that admitting I was powerless over a beverage and that my mind was becoming unmanageable was a sign of weakness. That surrendering was weak. That you would see me as weak.
 Then I realized that I no longer gave a rip as to what you thought of me. Like me. Don’t like me. Choose wisely. If you saw me as weak for admitting I was powerless over a beverage then I guess your presence in my life wasn’t as additive as I thought. Because, for me, my mind, not a beverage, has always been my greatest obstacle. And my mind can and must be one of my greatest strengths.

15 years ago today I re-centered my effort to surrender my mind..and joy was begat. I surrendered. I gave up completely and agreed to forgo especially in favor of another…me. I yielded. <continued in comments>

Kathryn Howie sat me down several years ago and made me read one of her several daily devotionals on September 4.

She highlighted. Copied it. And clearly directed me to “carry it with you.” Therefore, I do.

These words from @maxlucado are so significant and have been so impactful that I have Sept 4 marked as an annual recurring all day event is outlook as “our job is to wait.”

Wait is not my natural response to life.

And I can get through the next 20 action steps without looking up pretty rapidly.

What God continues to refine in me is His strength and His power in waiting.

Waiting to hear His clear voice in directing me in the action of the next right thing.
NOT the 20 next things.

I am not alone.
You are not alone.
We are not alone.
Remain calm.

Allow Him to fight and join Him in the next right thing.

He is My Defender.
